Insurance is required for all those taking part in SOS sanctioned dives and helping with NAS 1 courses. This insurance is provided through OUC as SOS is a training club member of OUC. All SOS members requiring this insurance must be a members of OUC and have paid the insurance fee. Students in NAS 1 courses do not require this insurance.
The SOS membership form contains a section for joining OUC and paying the insurance fee. Currently the membership costs $15.00 and the insurance fee is $4.35 This is decided yearly by OUC and so is not available for multiple years, in contrast to the SOS membership. If joining SOS for multiple years please forward payment for just one year for OUC and remember to renew in subsequent years. The insurance becomes effective when the SOS membership chairman receives the completed form and payment. Of course, if you are a member of OUC and have paid the insurance through another club you do not have to join again. The SOS membership chairperson works with the membership director of OUC to co-ordinate their lists. Contact the SOS Membership chairperson for verification.
SOS sanctioned diving activities must follow the requirements specified by OUC. Activity organizers must read these requirements. Note that at least 48 hours notice is required by OUC, so some advance planning is required and there can be no 11th hour members or non-members joining in at the last minute. The names of participants do not have to be sent as part of this notice. Further information, including an extensive FAQ, is available on the OUC insurance web site. If you have specific questions please sent them to and we will forward them to OUC. This way we can be aware of members concerns.
If you require Liability Insurance for a non-diving SOS event (e.g. Scuba in the Park) please contact us at at least two weeks in advance (at minimum) of the event in order to request a coverage check and to get a quote. A number of non-diving activities have already been approved.
Please note this article is intended
only to make members aware of the coverage available and is not a statement of
the details of the coverage. For that, members must go to the
OUC insurance
website.
